UKPN publishes details of Constraint Management Zones (CMZs), flexible capacity needed, and service windows. Providers wishing to participate must have eligible assets within these zones. UKPN accepts all operational assets, and some planned assets based on certain criteria.

Key details

Providers participate by giving offers of flexibility in daily auctions. They can update the available capacity and Utilisation Fee (UF) at any time up to 12:00 pm day ahead to reflect their expected running or opportunity costs.

UKPN uses the SU product (fixed volume of flexibility delivered at predefined times) for their day-ahead procurement. Dispatch instructions are sent by 13:30 the day before delivery, to maximise opportunity to participate in other day ahead and within day flexibility services.

Half hourly meter data must be submitted monthly for baseline and settlement calculations. The provider is paid a utilisation fee.
